A simple experiment was performed to ascertain whether procedures for estimating the iron-binding capacity (IBC) of blood serum are quantitative. This was accomplished by adding
-globulin (obtained by fractionation of human plasma) to various serum specimens. The
-globulin solutions were first assayed for their IBC. Their addition to serum in these recovery experiments provided data for evaluation of methodology.
