A Simple Method for Extraction and Quantitation of 14C-Labeled Compounds from Blood

Jesse H. Marymont Jr. 1 and Morris London 1

This note describes a simple heat clot-extraction procedure for separation of water soluble 14C-labeled compounds of low molecular weight from serum-in a form sufficiently pure to enumerate in a gas-flow counter. Data obtained with glucose-1- 14C and uric acid-1-14C are presented. Similar results have been obtained with 14C-labeled galactose, allantoin, tyrosine, phenylalanine, and leucine.
