A scheme is described for the systematic screening for amino acids and sugars in urine. High-voltage electrophoresis is used to separate amino acids, and thin-layer chromatography is used for sugar separation. In each case the separated constituents are stained and scanned in a densitometer, and a profile is constructed for comparison against normal profiles.
