1 Departments of Neurology and Medicine, University of São Paulo School of Medicine, São Paulo, SP, Brazil.

The present paper presents normal values for the contents of water, sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, chloride, copper, and iron in peripheral nerves (tibialis, fibularis profundus, and ulnaris) in individuals without any neurological condition. This study constitutes a basis for the interpretation of other data, still being gathered, relating these normal values with those obtained for peripheral nerves under pathological conditions.
