Automated Simultaneous Determination of p-Acetylaminohippurate and Inulin in Serum

A. Looyé 1

1 Renal Unit (Head, Dr. G. K. van der Hem), Department of Internal Medicine (Head, Prof. E. Mandema), University Hospital, Groningen, The Netherlands.

An automated determination of p-acetylaminohippurate in serum is described. It is combined with an existing procedure for determining inulin to give a simultaneous method. The same manifold can also be used to determine p-aminohippurate in combination with fructose by omitting hydrolysis. The results of automated and manual determination are compared. Recoveries of p-acetylaminohippurate and p-aminohippurate added to serum were quantitative.

Key Words: p-aminohippurate fructose • AutoAnalyzer • extended automated hydrolysis
