We introduce a new reducing agent, metamizol, for determining inorganic phosphorus colorimetrically in a protein-free filtrate of serum or plasma or in a diluted urine specimen. A 1 g/100 ml solution of metamizol, 0.2 ml, is used with acid-molybdate reagent. The metamizol solution is stable at 4°C for as long as 3.5 months, and can replace the reducing agents used in the various reference procedures discussed. The results agree well with those obtained by standard procedures.
