A sensitive (5 to 100 µg) and reproducible (±3.54% SD) method is described for determining monoglycerides, diglycerides, triglycerides, and free fatty acids. After these lipid classes are separated from extracts of plasma or tissues by a single thin-layer chromatographic development, they are eluted into concentrated H2SO4 at 200°C. The resulting color is stable for more than six days.

Key Words: thin-layer chromatography • elution from TLC with H2SO4
