1 IInd Institute of Medical Pathology, University of Milan, Milan 20122, Italy.

A method for electrophoretic separation of serum lipoproteins on gelatinized cellulose acetate is described, which does not involve any critical step, and allows repeatable results with a clear-cut separation of beta, pre-beta, alpha-lipoproteins, and chylomicrons. Many samples can be examined simultaneously on a large sheet and the electropherograms are ready to be examined or densitometrically scanned in 2 h.
