Determination of Plasma agr-Amino Nitrogen by Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry

Frank F. Hall 1, Barbara Schneider 1, Thomas W. Culp 1, and Charles R. Ratliff 1

1 Section of Biochemistry, Scott & White Clinic, Temple, Texas 76501.

An uncomplicated, indirect method is described for the determination of agr-amino nitrogen in plasma. Plasma is deproteinized with trichloroacetic acid and the protein-free filtrate is neutralized with alkali. The agr-amino groups complex with and solubilize copper from insoluble copper phosphate. The solubilized copper, measured by atomic absorption spectrophotometry, is proportional to the amount of agr-amino nitrogen present in the plasma.

Key Words: normal values
