A simple gas-chromatographic procedure is described for determination of total estriol in amniotic fluid. Before 20 weeks gestation the concentrations (<1 µg/100 ml) were not meaningful. After 20 weeks there was a gradual rise, followed by a rapid rise during the last weeks of pregnancy.
