An automated kinetic method is described for determination of oxytocinase activities in the sera of pregnant women. The reaction mixture consists of serum in phosphate buffer and the substrate L-cystine-bis-p-nitroanilide. The absorbance increase, due to the appearance of the reaction product, p-nitroaniline, is recorded during 2 min. With this method, 25 determinations per hour can easily be done.
