1-Antitrypsin in Serum
1 Medical Service and Respiratory Care Unit, Veterans Administration Hospital, Spokane, Wash. 99208.
A rapid method is described for immunochemical
quantitation of
1-antitrypsin by electroimmunodiffusion on cellulose acetate. Compared to
earlier qualitative screening techniques for trypsin activity, including trypsin inhibitory capacity,
the procedure presented here is specific, reproducible, and quantitative for
1-antitrypsin. It is
inexpensive and less time consuming than electroimmunodiffusion or radial immunodiffusion in
agar gel. The test is so simply done that this procedure can be routinely used by most hospital
clinical laboratories. The technique is easily
adapted to immunochemical quantitation of other
protein fractions.
