The "Lex-O2-Con" (Lexington Instrument) for measuring oxygen in blood is technically simpler to use and three times as rapid as the traditional Van Slyke instrument. Results obtained with both instruments for 90 blood samples from 18 patients were satisfactory (r = .997). The coefficient of variation for the Lex-O2-Con instrument was 0.6%.
