Phase Equilibrium of Oxygen in "Nitrogen-Filled Vacutainers"

Relationships describing the exchange of oxygen between the liquid and gas phases in a "Vacutainer" are derived and substantiated. The use of Vacutainers for determining P(O2) and percent oxyhemoglobin saturation is condemned.
