An inexpensive automated fluorometric technique for
blood galactose determination has been modified
to use dried blood spots available through phenylketonuria screening programs. The method is more efficient because of its high capacity (
85,000 tests a
year), low cost (
$3,000 a year in reagents), and
high specificity (enzymatic method).
