Necessity of Prerinsing Disposable Polypropylene Pipet Tips

G. H. Zeman 1 and N. S. Mathewson 1

1 Neurobiology and Radiation Biology Departments, Armed Forces Radiobiology Research Institute, Defense Nuclear Agency, Bethesda, Md. 20014.

Errors as great as 15% of rated volume occurred in the first sample dispensed from a piston-actuated microliter pipet when disposable polypropylene tips were used. We recommend prerinsing the tip before it is used to dispense either aqueous or nonaqueous solutions, to obviate these possible errors.
