Measurement of Brain-Specific Creatine Kinase Isoenzyme Activity in Serum

Daniel A. Nealon 1 and Arthur R. Henderson 1

1 Department of Clinical Biochemistry, University Hospital (University of Western Ontario), London, Ontario N6G 2K3 Canada

We further modified a diethylaminoethyl-cellulose column-chromatographic system [Clin. Chem. 21, 392 (1975)] so that it will separate all three serum creatine kinase isoenzymes. The modified system can be used to detect brain-specific creatine kinase isoenzyme in serum after brain surgery

Key Words: brain surgery (craniotomy) • chromatography on DEAE-cellulose
