A Simplified Procedure for the Routine Determination of Uric Acid

1. A method for the colorimetric determination of serum uric acid is described which involves the adsorption of uric acid by an ionexchange resin and the addition of N-ethylmaleimide to remove interfering chromogens.

2. The procedure is simple, accurate, and suitable for routine clinical use.

3. The clinical significance of serum uric acid levels is discussed.
