Erratum
In the article entitled "Estimate of Uncertainty of Measurement from a Single-Laboratory Validation Study: Application to the Determination of Lead in Blood", by M. Patriarca, M. Castelli, F. Corsetti, and A. Menditto (
Clin Chem 2004;50:1396-1405.[Abstract/Free Full Text]
), in the section on "Uncertainty associated with the best available estimate of overall precision" on page
, in the last line of the paragraph the description of how the RSDs were combined was incomplete and should read: "The following values for u(P) were obtained for each concentration range [u(P)1 = 0.082 (1235 µg/L); u(P)2 = 0.062 (>3590 µg/L); and u(P)3 = 0.052 (>90150 µg/L)] by combining the RSD for each control with the relative SDp for human samples within the concentration ranges given above. The rule for averaging variances (square root of the ratio between the sum of the squared SDs, each multiplied by its degrees of freedom, and the total number of degrees of freedom) was applied." In addition, in Table 4 (page ), the heading "Recovery, %" should read "Recovery" because the units for each entry are given in the first column on the left. The authors regret any confusion this may have caused.
