When I was starting my professional career in 1971 as a biologist working in a clinical laboratory, no clinical chemistry books were available to help to improve our scientific culture. Occasionally I read a paper in my institute at the University in Bologna in the Journal named Clinical Chemistry and immediately I was attracted by a language that was my language.

From that moment Clinical Chemistry has been my school book and I am very grateful for more than thirty years to have received a continuous, correct scientific education; and I state this concept to leave an example for the next generations of clinical chemists who can find in this publication a perfect example to carry on in our profession in a correct way.

Thank you editors actual and past.

Saverio Ruggeri
