To aid in shortening your manuscript to comply with the limitations of manuscript type or print page limitations, authors may wish to submit additional material for publication as Online Supplemental Data.
Believing that such data can be useful and wishing to take advantage of the opportunities afforded by electronic publishing, Clinical Chemistry is anxious to post such online data supplements which are available freely on the Internet (with no subscription required).
Supplemental Data may be uploaded in files of your choice (including PDF files).
Preparing Supplemental Data
To prepare Supplemental Data for publication online only, please do the following:
To proceed with uploading the Supplemental Data, simply add the text "See Online Supplemental Data" or “(See Supplemental Data Table 1)" or “(See Supplemental Data Figure 1)" within the text of your manuscript where you think it is most appropriate.
Upload the Supplemental Data figures, tables or additional data in the category ‘Supplemental Files’ when you upload your manuscript.
Please label your Supplemental Data Figures consecutively (i.e., Supplemental Data Figure 1, Supplemental Data Figure 2, etc.)
If you wish to add Supplemental Data Figure Legends you may do so, but upload them in a separate text file in the category Supplemental Files (or add them to the Supplemental Data figure panels themselves). Call the file ‘Supplemental Data Figure Legends’ to differentiate it from the others.
When you submit your manuscript, please do the following:
Even though you uploaded your manuscript and images separately, your converted PDF file should include all parts of your manuscript for the print journal: your title page, your structured abstract (if an article or a Technical Brief), manuscript body, references, as well as tables to appear in print, figure legends of figures to appear in print, and figures for print.
Your Supplemental Data files should be uploaded separately in the category Supplemental Files. They should not appear in the PDF.
The abstract (copy), cover letter and response to reviewers (if a revision) should appear in the Manuscript Metadata windows.
Please make sure all Supplemental Data files are uploaded correctly as supplemental files and let staff know your intent with a note included in your cover letter.
