Please see FAQs at http://submit.clinchem.org/tracking/faq? for more extensive help.
If you registered with the site and have not received a verification email, it could be that your institution has a spam blocking filter such as Spamcatcher, Inbloxer, SpamNet, or Spamkiller (to name just a few of the Spam blocking softwares) and you may have to manually enter/accept our email address clinchemed@clinchem.aacc.org as an acceptable sender to your email server. Please check with your Systems Managers to ascertain if this is the case.
If you are using Internet Explorer as your browser, and having trouble accessing pages, you might want to try this general ‘fix’ to see if it helps.
Please go to the toolbar along the top and proceed as follows:
Please note that login information (email and password) for the submission and review site will not be the same login information you use if you subscribe to the online journal (clinchem.org).
Often, due to problems with the initial registration or infrequent use, an author will have two accounts listed with us and the system is unsure which account to read.
If an author or reviewer suspects this is the problem or wishes to save time investigating the issue, he can let the Journal know and send the preferred email address to the Clinical Chemistry Editorial office at clinchemed{at}aacc.clinchem.org.
A staff member will check for duplicate accounts and will get back to the author letting him know if that is indeed the problem.
Bench>Press requires users to have their browser set to accept cookies in order to maintain their logged-in status throughout the system. A ‘cookie’ is a message given to a browser by a server. The browser stores the message and the message is sent back to the server each time the browser requests a page from the server.
If the user does not have cookies enabled, the user will repeatedly be asked to sign in since the system can't 'remember' who they are.
If cookies have been disabled either through a browser setting or through a cookie deleting program, the user will be taken to a new page that explains what the problem is and how they might be able to fix it. Once they have enabled the accepting of cookies, they can click on a link to their original destination and will be taken there.
To manually reset in Internet Explorer, go to Tools, Internet Options, General, Privacy, Advanced, check Override Automatic Cookie Handling and to Accept First Party Cookies and to Accept Third Party Cookies.
When a person creates an account with us, he uses his email address as the username and then sets whatever password he wishes. In order to change that information, he will need to click on ‘Personal Info’, found on the red toolbar at the top of each page at http://submit.clinchem.org/.
This will open a page that will allow him to edit the email address, thus changing his username.
The password can be changed by clicking ‘change your password’ on that same toolbar.
After changing this information, the user will receive a confirmation email at the new username email and afterward should be able to log in with the new username and password.
The Area of Expertise list was developed to help our editors choose reviewers who possess specific knowledge in a given area.
Our tracking system has been set up to make this page appear--as a gentle reminder---until the reviewer has selected at least one item on the list. As soon as the reviewer selects a topic and saves it, it will no longer appear when he logs in.
If he wishes to change these areas of expertise or add more detailed information, he can log in to his account at http://submit.clinchem.org/ anytime and click on Personal Info at the top of the page.
On the lower right side of the page that opens, the user will find ' Expertise Terms: Edit Expertise Terms'. He can click on this link and change the data accordingly.
Receiving a conversion error means that conversion of your manuscript to PDF format has failed. Please follow the link at http://submit.clinchem.org/ to view details about which of your files caused the conversion error.
If needed, you may wish to consult our online help by following the link in the red toolbar at the top of any submission page.
Invalid file types are the most common cause of conversion failure. Please see the ‘Manuscript Preparation’ section of the Information for Authors found in a link at the top of each submission page at http://submit.clinchem.org/ for acceptable file types.
Also, make sure your file names end with extensions appropriate to the file type (i.e. ".doc", ".tif" or ".eps"). Macintosh machines generally leave off the file type extension and it must be added manually.
The preferred format for document files is Microsoft Word (.doc).
Image file formats accepted are .eps (encapsulated postscript files) and .tiff (tagged image file format).
PowerPoint files (.ppt) are acceptable, but must be only one slide per file and each figure must have its own file.
For tables, the system prefers them to be included in the Word manuscript file. Do not submit files in Excel.
Please note that for revised manuscripts we require print-quality figure files independent of the document file (not embedded within).
For further details on print-quality figure formatting, see the ‘Preparing your Images for Submission’ section of our Information for Authors link on the upper left corner of each submission page at http://submit.clinchem.org.
Formats NOT supported include the following: Bitmap (.bmp), PICT (.pict), Excel (.xls - Excel tables can be embedded in word processing documents), Photoshop (.psd), Canvas (.cnv) and CorelDRAW (.cdr). Multi-slide PowerPoint files (.ppt) are not supported; one slide per file is acceptable.
If your files are large, you may want to upload a few, click upload, wait for them to upload, then add a few more and so on until all are uploaded. This often helps prevent conversion errors.
Sometimes the problem may be because there are so many PPT files. PPT files can be large and when doing a PDF conversion, often the process will ‘time out’ and the conversion fail. Again, you may want to upload a few, click upload, wait for them to upload, then add a few more and so on until all are uploaded.
You can use your Clinical Chemistry email address and password to access other journals' Bench>Press systems so that you do not have to memorize multiple passwords.
You simply need to sign in with the email address and the password you selected when registering with other Bench>Press journals.
Your sign-in information, however, is the only information that is shared between journals, and you will need to create a basic profile for each journal, including your contact information.
This also means that if you change your address, you must make the change with all the journals with whom you have accounts.
You may find that your HTML references section is empty. This can be remedied by including the heading "References" before the references section in your paper.
HTML references cannot be edited directly; any changes must be made by re-uploading your manuscript file during the proofing stage.
In addition, uploading a PDF file as your manuscript source file will also prevent the references from parsing to the Clinical Chemistry HTML reference window.
